South of Balboa Park and east of Downtown San Diego is a pedestrian friendly haven for musicians and artists, known as Golden Hill. City College, much of Balboa Park, and Downtown are all actually within walking distance of Golden Hill. The freeways 94 and 5 are directly accessed from this one-of-a-kind neighborhood. Golden Hill is a stone’s throw from most of San Diego’s attractions giving residents plenty to do in their down time. This unique place has numerous pre-1900 homes making it one of the most historic and architecturally diverse areas that San Diego has to offer to homeowners.
The Golden Hill Block Party, which occurs on the last Saturday before Halloween, and the Kate Sessions Fest are two annual outside concerts, held in Golden Hill. They are put together by local artists and musicians, and highlight the music of local bands. These events are for all ages and are free to attend. The Habitat Recording Studios and Black Box Recording Studios also call Golden Hill home. Like the artists and musicians that reside here, the foodies flock to Golden Hill with its many highly rated restaurants including Buona Forchetta, Turf Supper Club, Krakatoa, Kafe Sobaka Restoran Pomegranate, Pizzeria Luigi, and more to choose from, leaving everyone’s tastes satisfied.
Many homes feature splendid views of the San Diego Bay. They mostly have ample space and sit on large lots. This area was originally developed in the 1920’s, but has seen substantial modernization bringing in commercial buildings, condominiums, and housing developments alike to the area. And of course, there are still many historic homes, of various architectural design, leaving you to wonder if you stepped into a different era.
Architecturally represented in the neighborhood, are homes with Victorian, Tudor, Art Deco, Swiss chalet, postmodern contemporary, and more styles. This does not exclude those homes that are designed and influenced by several styles, which are found here too. All of these wonderfully different styles and the modern renovations that have been made over the years, make Golden Hill quite an unusual special neighborhood and a highly desirable place to live.
